2026 Giro d’Italia — The 109th Edition in Full Swing
2026年5月11日 Community & Racing
As one of the World’s three iconic road cycling Grand Tours and the first major stage race of the UCI WorldTour, the 2026 Giro d’Italia kicked off in Bulgaria on May 8 and will conclude in Rome on May 31. The race features 21 stages covering approximately 3,468 kilometers with a total elevation gain of 48,700 meters. It gathers 184 riders from 23 top-tier global teams, competing fiercely for the iconic Maglia Rosa — the pink jersey of overall race leadership.
Route Highlights
For the first time in history, the Giro d’Italia starts in Bulgaria. The opening three stages unfold along the Black Sea coast and in Sofia, before the peloton moves into Italy and rides north all the way to Rome.
The race includes 1 individual time trial, 8 sprint stages, 7 medium mountain stages and 5 high mountain stages.
Stage 10 (a 42km individual time trial) and Stage 19 (with 5,000 meters of total elevation gain including the high-point Col du Galibier pass) stand out as the toughest challenges. Stage 7, at 244 kilometers, is the longest stage of the entire race.
Star Riders Spotlight
In the general classification, Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard (Visma–Lease a Bike) makes his debut at the Giro. Already a champion of both the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, he could become only the eighth rider in history to win all three Grand Tours if he claims the Giro title this year.
Italian rising star Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull–Bora–Hansgrohe) lines up alongside former Giro winner Jay Hindley as co-leaders of the team
The sprint battles are highly anticipated between Jonathan Milan and Dylan Groenewegen. The first Maglia Rosa of the race was claimed by Paul Magnier on the opening stage.
