Road wheelset selection
When picking road bike wheels, focus on three key components: rim, hub and spokes.
Hub Focus on hub engagement speed, bearing smoothness and overall durability. Fast-engagement hubs deliver crisp, direct response when starting and pedaling out of the saddle. For long-distance riding and reliable durability, hubs with sealed dustproof bearings are recommended to block sand and grit and extend service life.
Spokes Spoke count and lacing pattern together determine wheel stiffness, power transfer and impact resistance. Fewer spokes are an option for racing to cut weight. For long rides and heavier riders, a higher spoke count improves wheel stability and longevity.
